Chubby Beauties
I always thought of Graptoveria 'Opalina' (Echeveria colorata x Graptopetalum amethystinum) and Pachyveria 'Laon' (Echeveria laui x Pachyphytum oviferum) as different, but wandered whether I could tell them apart each time. π§
So, the other day, I was preparing to ship a huge and gorgeous Pachyveria 'Laon' and a thought came to put it next to Graptoveria 'Opalina' for a picture. π€
Here is the picture of both of them. The bottom one is Laon and the top one - Opalina. π€©
Opalina is much older than Laon, so no expectation that its leaves will become bigger-wider. In this comparison, I can tell that Laon has fewer but bigger leaves. The shape of the leaves is somewhat different but not a lot - I think of a diamond shape when looking at Opalina's leaves and Laon - an eye shape.
Also, the center seem to be more closed up in Opalina. Both get a pink tint when stressed. Both have a nice layer of farina. And both have thicker leaves as they thrive. β€οΈ
Personally, my favorite here is Pachyveria 'Laon'. π I have 2 (pictures of both are included in this post) even though my rule is only one per variety. π I have only a few exceptions like that. π
And for sure my Laons need bigger pots because obviously they have overgrown these 4β owl pots a long time ago. π Actually, that is the reason why they are not as huge as the one I took a picture of next to Opalina. π€
